Where We Live and Serve

The Hospital

Hospital Loma de Luz is a 40,000 square foot,50-bed mission hospital with 3 operating rooms,7 out-patient clinic examining rooms,an emergency room,a wound clinic,a 2-chair dental clinic,an eyeglasses clinic,a laboratory, and a pharmacy.  It currently staffs for an in-patient census for 8 beds (predicated by the significant on-going cost of employing Honduran nursing staff).  Between triage,out-patient clinic, emergency room, surgery (both in-patient and out-patient) and in-patient services,we care for roughly 20,000 patients per year and perform about 600 surgical procedures per year.  We serve a primary catchment area of roughly 70,000 souls, and take referrals from Honduran physicians and nurses at Public Health facilities from all over Honduras.

Sanctuary House Children’s Center

Sanctuary House Children’s Center was opened in June 2008 as an integral part of the services provided by Hospital Loma de Luz on the North Coast of Honduras. The Center can accommodate up to 24 children and provides employment for 8 local people. This Service is aimed at 3 main groups of children:

  • Children who are sick or disabled and require frequent medical care/interventions,but do not need to be in-patient.
  • Children from extreme rural areas who need a place to live while they access education not available in their own communities.
  • Children who are at risk or who have been abandoned and who need a safe place to live.

The Farm – Finca Loma de Luz

Finca Loma de Luz encompasses over 120 acres of varied terrain that is blessed with good soils and over 130 inches of rain per year. God has given us a multifaceted vision for the farm. First, the farm’s harvests can provide significant financial resources for the operation of Hospital Loma de Luz and it’s associated ministries. Second, the farm serves as a resource to the wider community through the production of healthy foods, the opportunity for valued and respectable employment, and finally as a source of community pride. Third, the farm is a place of learning –a place where better agricultural practices can be demonstrated, leading to better food security and resource conservation for our entire region.

The farm’s diversified crops include:

  • Over 40 acres of African Oil Palm trees
  • Pastured broiler chickens
  • Pastured eggs
  • Meat sheep and dairy goats
  • Greenhouse production of palm seedlings, decorative plants and vegetable crops
  • On-farm composting
